For Chase's birthday, he received a kit that allowed him to raise caterpillars, watch them turn into cocoons, and then see butterflies emerge. He got five Painted Lady butterflies in all which he called his "pets". So, Chase was pretty disappointed when I told him that it was time to release the butterflies but, lucky for me, he sucked it up an had a ceremony for each butterfly as it flew away.
We are not sure how long these little ladies will last in the wild but we are relieved that we will not have to wake up to Chase finding any D-E-A-D pets in his net.
